Our Routine

Hi all- Still no internet in our apartment :-( They have promised us between 2 and 6 tomorrow- I guess the cable company works that same all over the world. But today we at least got to leave the apt to come here to the internet cafe (in the rain). Things are going really well and we are really enjoying our time here. Gosh, where should I start now that we have the afternoon to ourselves and have unliminted time to post? OK, so we had day 6 of our 15 bonding days today. Our coordinator said she would be able to apply for a court date on Aug 3rd, then we'd go to court to petition on the 13th, then 15 days after that it's final and we can take him to our apartment, then a couple of days of paperwork here, a couple in Almaty, then a long plane ride home. So here's how things have been around here. We have an entire entourage who comes with us everywhere we go pretty much. We have our coordinator, translator, driver, another couple with our agency who is here from Michigan, and us. Peter and I get up anywhere between 4 and 5 am (not like us, I know). We make a little Nescafe and a bite to eat, listen to the fuzzy FoxNews channel (sound but no picture), and get ready for the day. We have a van that picks us up at 9:30 in the morning (the other couple and us have apartments in buildings right next to each other) and we head to the baby house for visitation from 10-12. When we get to the baby house, we take off our shoes at the door ( I LOVE that!) and go up to our son's area which consists of three rooms- and anteroom with cubbies for them all where we keep clothes, bottle, toys, blanket, etc; a sleeping room; and a playing/eating room with an area for changing, bathing at the side. They bring him to us when he is awake, fed, and changed (nice, huh?) so he is always in a good mood. Then we basically just take him into the visiting room down the hall and play for our two hours with three other couples who are also adopting. Then we bring him back and put him down for a nap. Then we all go to lunch, run errands, etc. And what Peter and I have been doing after errands these days is waiting with our tranlator for the intercom, locksmith, and cable man. That's why we haven't been able to post. Then sometimes people get together for dinner. It may not sound like we've been all that busy but we really have. Just going to the grocery is of course entertaining (although our translator comes sometimes) since we have no idea what we are buying. And buying baby clothes is a chore because you have to go in the store and ask "what have you got in a size 9-12 month?" (they like the clothes a little big) and they show you what they have, and then you move on to the next store in the row of about 10. It's fun. OK I am going to break this up into another post.
