Lake Week

Hi all,
After a crazy dorecho storm in DC in July, we escaped the power outages and broken stoplights, the lines at the gas stations and at the grocery store, and the fallen trees everywhere to head down to LBurg for a wedding.  Little did we know that the city of LBurg was even worse than DC.

Turns out we couldn’t even get to Gigi’s house the regular way because of so many trees blocking the roads and had to drive around the entire city and come the back way.  And so our plans changed.  Though the wedding was still on, the power was not and I didn’t think it was fair to leave the poor babysitter in the house with no AC (and it was 100 degrees- yikes), no way to cook food, no easy way to get there, no TV/internet/etc.  So we didn’t even unpack and instead we took a leap of faith that the lake would have power (and offered to be the advance team for the rest of the fam) and headed on up to start our week at the lake a day early.  Thankfully, the house was up and running with no problems and we threw on our swimsuits and went directly into vacation mode.

Our sweet little Bek is a swimming FOOL.  I don’t know how this child came from a landlocked country because he was meant for the water.  Not only is he enjoying floating and swimming around in the water all day long, but this fearless little one is jumping off the dock to no one in particular, going completely underwater and bobbing back to the surface with a smile on his face just to paddle over to the ladder, climb up, and do it all over again.  For hours.  Literally, hours.  And the naps…. They are every mom’s dream.  They go on forever because he is just flat out worn out in a happy worn out kind of way.

Rin too is really into the swimming now.  He is a little less scared than he used to be and a little more excited to get out there and swim his little fanny off.  And, oh my gosh, the look on pride on his face just melts my heart.  He jumps up and down and shouts, “I can’t believe I’m swimming Mommy!  I can’t believe it!”  He too wears his little self out and the naps are long and this mommy gets some quiet time.

I had a whole lot of time off this time around actually.  Kate and Jason played and played for the days that they were here and when they left in came Chris and Meagan to enjoy our air conditioning and power (still none in LBurg), then Ann, and then Tray and his fam.  And of course GigiMar were here for the duration and Gigi was happy to take the early morning shift.  It’s absolutely wonderful to be able to sleep in.  Pure bliss when I can wake up and lie in bed for a while before I have to get up and face my energetic, loud, babies who just want to crawl all over me and tell me every little thought in their tiny non-stop brains.

Nothin’ much really happened while we were there.  But it was a good kind of nothing.  The kind of nothing where I get to read an entire book, where my blood pressure goes down, where I get to sleep the kind of sleep when I feel truly rested.  No nightmares (and I am plagued by them) no stress (aside from the stress of raising kids) and no drama.  Having nothing going on is pretty great as far as I’m concerned.

Love to all,  -m
